Lisbon
Strangely Straight

Lisbon is really two distinct cities. The old Lisbon, that part of the city that survived the Great Lisbon Earthquake of 1755 and the part of the city that was completely destroyed and rebuilt because of the earthquake. On a map, it's easy to see the two regions because the newer city has square grid streets.

Here is an example of one of the great avenues heading east/west in the new city. Looking west, I can almost see the ocean from almost 1 mile away. The street runs as straight as an arrow.
