Mien Host

We spent the night at a Mien home. Our host had been to the U.S. and knew Kao. Once again, we got to benefit from Kao's widespread network of friends.

He is smoking a big pipe, traditionally used to smoke opium, but filled only with tobacco.

Although we were in a part of the world known at one time for opium, I never saw any. I was told those days are over.
