Tides of Change

Raindrop feeds the river,
    Which cuts the earth,
        And rushes onward;

Searching for
    And finding
  Rest
      Beneath the ocean waves.

Though time flows
    Like sand
  Down the riverbed,
    Rushing past,
  I find myself
    Swirling
      Like a leaf,
        A visitor,
        A floater,
          Lost in the eddies.

Nature flows towards rest and balance, calm and stability, equilibrium; with no other purpose than that which exists in the instant.

Man's separation from nature is a reflection of his building, doing, taking action, all of which involve a recognition and embracing of some "higher purpose". Man looks ahead, anticipates, and plans. He is forever swimming against the tide of rest and calm, while he struggles to maintain balance and stability. But he is forever mated to change.
