Colorful Powders

On our way back, we passed a small market with all sorts of things one might need to honor the dead.

A woman had cans of colored powders. I had seen these colors, especially the reds, on altars everywhere.

Kathy tells me this is the powder that is used to put the "tikka," or blessing mark, on the forehead. Red is an especially auspicious color for Hindus. And there is an old Nepali proverb: "Red is good as sweet is tasty."

The merchant sold the powders in very small quantities, which were weighed by a balance. A little went a long way...
