Crock Pot
Food was kept on the ground until it was put into the
large pot to cook. Sanitation was poor, and it was a
challenge not to get sick. Kathy warned me to drink
only the water from the Cornell house, which was
purified. I was even warned not to swallow any water
when I washed my face! And I needed to brush my teeth with purified water.
Clean water is impossible to find in the country, so I
would only eat cooked food and raksi, the local liquor.
Even so, I got sick for three days after our visit.
